The American National Theatre’s Board of Directors has experience in all aspects of for-profit and nonprofit management, and an impressive wealth of resources to draw on in guiding the organization.
The leadership of The American National Theatre is implementing the following strategies to ensure the fulfillment of its mission, and the success of the Festival, which represents the initial realization of that mission:
Communicate a clear vision. The clarity of The American National Theatre’s vision and the originality and vitality of its mission have been lauded by theatre visionaries from across the country. The American National Theatre Festival will communicate the ANT’s mission to a broad audience in New York and nationally, through the media.
Generate strong artist, industry, and community support. The ANT Artistic Advisory Panel includes some of the best minds and talents in the American theatre. Leaders of the nation’s performing arts unions and organizations in service to the industry support The American National Theatre as Administrative Advisory Panelists. These panels continue to grow weekly. The American National Theatre is actively seeking to serve the New York community and national theatre community by building a new audience for the American theatre. The American National Theatre will strive to represent in its programming and bring its presentations to populations underserved by the performing arts industry.
Develop and implement effective business and fundraising plans. The American National Theatre’s business plan is fiscally responsible and prepared in collaboration with professional firms. In addition, The American National Theatre has developed a comprehensive plan for fundraising from individual, government, foundation, and corporate sources across the country, and has employed the professional fundraising services of the New York Grant Company.

Sean Cullen, Founder - Biography
Sean Cullen is the founder, President and Secretary of The American National Theatre, Inc. A native of Buffalo, NY, Sean is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and the Yale School of Drama. He is an actor, writer and producer of theatre, and co-founder with ANT Artistic Advisor Elizabeth Margid of New York’s Bulldog Theatre Company.
Sean is scheduled to play Topolski in the Portland Center Stage production of THE PILLOWMAN, in February and March of 2007. Most recently, he appeared in the title role of Shakespeare on the Sound’s production of MACBETH, directed by Ezra Barnes, at Rowayton, CT. Before that he played both Murdstone and Creakle in the Westport Country Playhouse’s production of DAVID COPPERFIELD, directed by Joanne Woodward and Anne Keefe. Sean made his Broadway debut in the Tony-Award winning JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD, adapted and directed by Richard Nelson. He also appeared Off-Broadway in Mr. Nelson’s THE GENERAL FROM AMERICA (featuring Corin Redgrave), at Theatre for a New Audience, and in 2005 played the title character in ALEXANDER HAMILTON: IN WORLDS UNKNOWN, the centerpiece of the New York Historical Society's salute to one of America's most important founders. Regionally, his credits include the Alley Theatre, ACT, the Huntington Theatre, the Kennedy Center, Ahmanson Theatre, Pittsburgh Public, Denver Center Theatre, the Old Globe, Seattle Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Shakespeare Theatre, Studio Arena, the Hippodrome State Theatre, and Yale Rep. In the fall of 2007, he will appear as George Clooney’s brother Gene in MICHAEL CLAYTON, a film written and directed by Tony Gilroy. His other film and television acting credits include LAW & ORDER: S.V.U. (NBC); LAW & ORDER (NBC); SIMONE (w/Al Pacino); KILLER RATS (w/Ron Perlman); LILLY; RIFFED; ON THE Q.T. (w/James Earl Jones); COPLAND; ARILISS (HBO); and LAW & ORDER: C.I. (NBC). SAFE HOME, Sean’s first play, was last read at Stanford University by the American Conservatory Theatre, in August of 2006. The play has been work-shopped at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, CA, and previously been read in New York at the Hudson Stage Company, the Yale Club, CAP 21, and the Directors’ Company. His first completed script, CITY HIGH: "INITIATION," a television pilot for a dramatic series co-created with Charles Schultz, was a finalist at the New Harmony Project. He is also the author of INDIANA JONES AND THE RETURN OF THE ARK, a proposed fourth installment of the serial. |
